Nutella intentionally presents their product as part of a “balanced breakfast” and features happy, healthy families enjoying it alongside fruit and whole wheat bread.

In reality, just two tablespoons of Nutella contain 200 calories – 100 of which come from fat. That’s the same as eating a Three Musketeers candy bar for breakfast. These high levels of saturated fat and other sugary ingredients “significantly contribute to America’s alarming increase in childhood obesity” and can cause type-2 diabetes, heart disease, and other “serious health problems”, the suit claims.

the art of EL MAC

 Born in Los Angeles in 1980 to an engineer and an artist, Mac has been creating and studying art independently since childhood. His primary focus has been the lifelike rendering of human faces and figures. He has drawn inspiration from the surrounding Mexican & Chicano culture of Phoenix and the American Southwest, religious art, pin-up art, graffiti, and a wide range of classic artists such as Caravaggio, Mucha, and Vermeer. He began painting with acrylics and painting graffiti in the mid ’90s, and has since worked consistently towards mastering his signature portrait style. Around 1998 he began to paint technicolor aerosol versions of classic paintings by old European masters. This led to being commissioned in 2003 by the Groeninge Museum in Brugge, Belgium to paint his interpretations of classic Flemish Primitive paintings in the museum’s collection. He has since been commissioned to paint murals across the US, as well as in Mexico, Denmark, Sweden, Canada, South Korea, Belgium, Italy, The Netherlands, Puerto Rico, Spain, France, Singapore, Germany, Ireland, and Vietnam.

Some of his murals have become local landmarks, especially his collaborations with Retna, which combine Mac’s representational figures with Retna’s abstract lettering and designs. In 2008 he created a 100+ foot wide mural for an installation at the Denver Botanic Gardens, and also participated in the Manifest Hope art show during the Democratic National Convention in Denver. His art was used for a Juxtapoz magazine cover feature in 2009, and the cover of LA Weekly for a feature on the Seventh Letter collective.  He has painted large murals during Art Basel in Miami the last three years in a row. 2009 brought a sold-out solo show at Fifty24SF Gallery in San Francisco, a two-man show with Retna at the Robert Berman Gallery at the Bergamot Station in Santa Monica, along with the publication of a book about Mac & Retna’s artwork published by Upper Playground/Gingko Press. There was also a limited edition Montana spraycan produced in Spain with their artwork on it. In 2010 he painted a large mural on the museum of contemporary art (MARCO) in Monterrey, México as part of the Seres Queridos project.

Mac continues to focus primarily on creating more public art in different parts of the world, painting photorealistic canvases, and evolving his brushwork style. His intent is to uplift and inspire through careful, perfectionist renderings of both the sublime and the humble. Most especially he enjoys the simple challenges and rewards of painting. He works primarily in Phoenix and Los Angeles.

Have Fun and Save the Planet

Here in California, most folks know that our planet needs our help right now, but we often feel uncertain about what to do, where to make an effort, and what will really help. The beneficial news is that we can heal the planet on a daily basis simply by buying and eating food that is grown locally. Food that has been shipped long distances doesn’t contain much life force by the time it gets to your kitchen. Making a pledge to shop, buy, and eat locally is not only a very important part of creating positive change, it can also be delicious fun. 

One of the best places to begin the adventure of eating locally is a farmer’s market. Stalls brim with fresh fruits and vegetables grown on nearby farms. Not only is this good for the environment, it’s good for the farmers since they benefit from selling directly to the consumer. The consumer payback, too, from the personal experience of buying food from the hand of the person who grew it. In addition, the food is fresher and more diverse. In supermarkets, particular varieties of fruits and vegetables are favored due to their ability to survive transport to a far destination. Alternately, at a farmer’s market, you will find versions of the fruits and vegetables you know that will surprise and enjoyment your senses—green striped heirloom tomatoes, purple cauliflower, white carrots, and edible flowers, just to name a few.

Make an attempt to buy as much of your food as possible completely from local farmers. You will become one of a growing number of people eating scrumptious food to save the planet and having fun doing it.

Eating locally grown food as much as possible is paramount for your body as its life-force is stronger from being fresh.

Tankian Unveils 'Figure It Out'

World renowned musician, Serj Tankian, has formally released the video for his new single "Figure It Out".  Watch the full video for "Figure It Out" here:

The song will feature on his third solo album, "Harakiri", a concept album about the ritual suicide of animals in response to mankind's impact on the environment.

"The record is different than any I've made as a solo artist," he said (via Blabbermouth). "It is much more driving and punk-oriented, with influences ranging from goth to electronic to '80s vibes, dynamically heavy rock to epic melodic songs. Lyrically, it spans the gauntlet of themes from personal, political and philosophical to spiritual, humor and love."

Tankian says this album was motivated by reports of birds and fish dying in massive numbers globally. "Varied creatures on earth were committing massive hara-kiri," he said. "Do they know something we don't about the coming times or the sustainability of the environment? That is the day I started writing this record."

According to many online publications, some of the new album was written on an Apple iPad, to help stir up his creative process.

Հաջորդ օրն ինչպես միշտ գնացի համալսարան: Ընկերուհիներս, իհարկե, տեղյակ էին նախորդ օրվա իրադարձություններին: Ու ահա նրա հերթական զանգը: Խուճապահար եղած չէի կարողանում մի քանի րոպե պատասխանել: Ի՞նչ ասեմ նրան, ի՞նչպես խոսեմ, ի՞նչպես վարվեմ նրա հետ: Երևի աղջիկների մեծամասնությունն էր հայտնվել այս նույն իրավիճակում: Սակայն կարծում եմ, ոչ մեկ այսպիսի զվարճալի ու յուրօրինակ լուծում չի գտել այս խնդրին, ինչպիսին գտանք ընկերուհիներով: Փառք Աստծո դասերն էլ արդեն ավարտվել էին, իսկ լսարանը ամբողջովին դատարկ էր: Մեզ օգնության հասան գրատախտակը, կավիճը և իմ հեռախոսի բարձրախոսը:

Երևի իմ ամբողջ կյանքում գրատախտակն այդպիսի կարևոր դեր չէր խաղացել ու չի էլ խաղա ինչպես այդ օրը: Հեռախոսով հնչում էին նրա պարզ հարցերը, իսկ այդ հարցերն իմ համար մաթեմատիկական բարդ խնդիրներ էին թվում, որոնց պատասխանները գրվում էին գրատախտակի վրա: Մոռացել էի բոլոր բառերը ու կցկտուր բառեր էի կարդում գրատախտակից...  Հիշում եմ ու զարմանում իմ վրա:

Որոշ ժամանակ անց սկսվեցին պարբերաբար կրկնվող հանդիպումները: Ամեն մի հաջորդ հանդիպում ավելի սպասված էր դառնում, քան նախորդը: Ամեն մի հաջորդ հանդիպումն ավելի էր համոզում ինձ, որ չեմ սխալվել նրա մեջ: Ամեն ինչ գեղեցիկ էր, հեքիաթային, ճիշտ այնպես ինչպես ինքս էի երազում ու երազում էին հարյուրավոր աղջիկներ: Երազում էին ոչ թե ասպետի մասին, այլ մի պարզ ու գրավիչ տղայի մասին, ում հարկավոր չէր սպիտակ ձի աղջկա սիրտը գրավելու համար: Ով բարի էր, մաքուր, նպատակասլաց: Հենց այդպիսին էր Հայկն իմ համար:
